The project began with persona development and a refined design brief to align the technological and aesthetic vision. From there, multiple pre-concept explorations were developed before selecting a final design direction, focusing on:

2. EEG Sensor System & Ergonomic Challenges
One of the most complex aspects of Orphey was designing an EEG sensor system that ensures stable skin contact while maintaining comfort. ONMOTIO worked extensively on:
- Custom-designed retractable EEG spikes:
- Engineered to gently penetrate hair while maintaining a soft, rounded tip for comfort.
- Electrically actuated, ensuring consistent skin contact for precise readings.
- Extensive iterations and testing to refine contact pressure and distribution.
- Multi-point EEG array for improved accuracy:
- Four sensor arrays integrated into the headband arch.
- Three additional sensors per ear cup, ensuring full coverage of brain activity.
- Sensor placement designed to maximize signal clarity without compromising comfort.
- Stable readings during movement:
- Optimized to function in varied environments, minimizing noise from movement.
- Brush-like electrode design adapts to individual head shapes for optimal fit.


3. AI & Adaptive Sound Processing
Orphey’s AI-driven audio experience combines pre-programmed emotional triggers with user-specific learning:
- Mood-based sound personalization: Users select a desired mood, and the AI adapts audio properties to guide them toward that state.
- Continuous learning & refinement:
- The AI learns user-specific reactions over time, fine-tuning music selections and sound modulation.
- It leverages anonymized global user data to refine general behavior models while maintaining personalized adaptation.
- Cloud-based processing: EEG data is transmitted via Bluetooth & Wi-Fi to a centralized system, where advanced AI models analyze and optimize responses.
